What evidence does a record attempt need?
Continuous video, signed witness statements, measurement records and a log of the attempt. Check the category rules for specifics.
Plan to capture far more than you think you need. Each category has its own rules, but most attempts call for continuous video, signed statements from independent witnesses, measurement records and a written log.
The evidence pack
- Video. Unbroken, clear, with the whole attempt in frame. Use a backup camera.
- Photos. Wide shots of the setting plus close-ups of key moments.
- Witness statements. Signed by people independent of you, often with relevant expertise.
- Measurement records. Who measured, how and with what equipment.
- Logbook. Times, breaks, conditions and anything unusual.
Common gaps
- Camera battery died mid-attempt
- Witness left before the end
- No proof the scale or tape was accurate
- Rules changed but you used an old version
Tip
Run a full rehearsal with the cameras rolling and the witnesses in position. You will find the gaps before they cost you the record.
